Competition, Parliament Schwerin | 2011

Having expanded beyond its functional capacity and subject to a series of ill-considered alterations over time, this competition was announced for the re-design of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state parliamentary chambers, housed in the castle of Schwerin. The proposal was to revive the lost grandeur of what was previously the castle’s “Golden Hall”, into which the debating chambers and visitor’s gallery was to be relocated. Subsequently, the existing debating chambers were to be converted into press and conferencing areas, with an increased floor area by way of an inserted mezzanine.
